What science ideas did you learn?
I learned that it takes work but that scientists have alot to do to find out about diseases. For example, to find out where the disease is hitting the scientists have to know what happens when you get it.Also, they have to know where it happens and what it does. They also need to know who is exposed in order to help them. Another thing they need to know is how the disease is caught like it might be caught by personal face-to-face contact or by an insect like a mosquito. They have hard work but they always do there best to help.
Other stuff i learned was how to make H-D statements, hypothesizes, predictions and to test the hypothesies. An H-D statement is a statement that includes If,And,Then in that order. The If is the hypothesies, the and is the expirement, and the THEn is the prediction. For exaple: IF Mr. Finley is clumsy so he haas 36 backup televisions and one is in use AND we check his garbage before garbage day THEN we should find at least one television. We also learned about independent and dependent variables. An independent variable is the variable that you change in an expirement. A dependent variable is the variable that changes as a result of the variable you changed.
How did you learn these ideas?
I learned these ideas by testing them out. we made a chart to find out how scientists find the start of a disease. We made hypothesies and tested them out to make our h-d statements. We studied ways to make our own H-D statements like the one in purple. To get that we had to be able to test it out. We learned the varibles by getting statements like : Metals expand when they are heated. The rate of expansion varies depending the type of metal. The independent variable is the type of metals and the dependent variable is the rate of expansion.
Why is it important to know this idea (What real world application is there)?
It is important to know all of this. Knowing about the diseases is important so people are treated corrctly. Knowing where and how it spreads is important to know so the scientists can study it and get the people in contact with it and who have it, get treated. Knowing how to make an H-D statemnt is important to real life because it is a way to test your hypothesy correctly. Scientists can use this t come to the right conlusion by disproving their hypotheies.
